Todd Bertuzzi Elbows Some Joke, No Suspension Because He's Not Matt Cooke

So Detroit Red Wings winger Todd Bertuzzi elbowed a guy right in the face over the weekend.  Perfect, I thought, this is a great way to see if the NHL is serious about headshots and ridding them from the game.  Did the NHL step up and deliver a Matt Cooke-like suspension for the Red Wings?

Pens Beat Flyers 2-1: Mike Richards is Still a Joke

The Penguins defeated the Flyers 2-1 last night in Philly, keeping the Penguins within shouting distance of 1st place overall in the East.  I'm going to be honest with you:  After watching the game, I'm sure as hell not impressed with the Flyers.

NHL: Should Matt Cooke Be Traded?

In the wake of Matt Cooke's loooooooooooong suspension, rumors have sprung up that Penguins owner Mario Lemieux and team president David Morehouse have decided that Matt Cooke needs to be traded.  Further more, it's been reported that Ray Shero disagrees with this sentiment and is adamant about keeping the headline-grabbing forward.

So who's right?

Matt Cooke Suspended for the Rest of the Season and Playoffs

So the NHL ax came down and it wasn't pretty.  Matt Cooke has been suspended for the remainder of the regular season and for the 1st round of the playoffs for his hit on Rangers player Ryan McDonagh.

Matt Cooke Screws It Up Again

Boy, Matt Cooke has some really bad timing, doesn't he?  Sure, the Penguins lost 5-2 to the Rangers on Sunday but the real story is Matt Cooke delivering a flying elbow to Ryan McDonagh and sending the anti-Penguins blogosphere into an absolute tizzy.

Pitt Basketball Screws It Up Again

Seriously, guys?  I mean, really?  You're given the easiest path to the championship game this year and you screwed it up....again?  As a Pitt fan, how many more times do I have to sit through this?  How did you let that Opie lookalike up above beat you?  There are far too many questions and not nearly enough answers.

NHL: It's Time to Shut Down Sidney Crosby

Sidney Crosby has skated for 15 minutes 3 of the past 4 days and that already has some Penguins fans salivating about a potential return.  We really need to pump the brakes on those thoughts and think:  Is returning to hockey this year the best thing for Sidney Crosby?

Why Mario Lemieux's Letter to Gary Bettman is Very Important

Monday was quite the in Penguins-land as team captain Sidney Crosby returned to the ice and team owner Mario Lemieux unveiled a letter sent to commissioner Gary Bettman.  The letter addressed the controversial topic of on-ice discipline in the NHL and the league's failure to punish accordingly.
Lemieux makes the point that suspensions have not stopped dirty players from repeating their actions when they return to the ice (see: Gillies, Trevor), which makes them somewhat ineffective.  Lemieux also wants the teams themselves to be liable for their player's actions (imagine that!) and be fined according to the suspension.

Sidney Crosby Skates, Thousands of Pittsburghers Thank God

Concussed Penguins captain Sidney Crosby skated for the first time in what seems like years today during the Pens practice.  Is a return to the ice close at hand?

Montreal Canadiens Fans Want Zdeno Chara Arrested

Credit goes to The Pensblog on this one.  In the wake of the NHL being...well, the NHL and doing absolutely nothing about Zdeno Chara's vicious hit on Max Pacioretty, Canadiens fans have taken matters in their own hands.

Disco Dan Bylsma Gets An Extension

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed head coach Dan Bylsma to a three year extension.  Disco Dan currently holds a 104-52-19 record and the highest winning percentage in franchise history  since taking over in 2009.

His work this season with a seriously depleted roster thanks to injury is should not be overlooked.  He has essentially taken an AHL team (with a great goaltender) and has them looking at home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Is a Stanley Cup Run Still Possible?

So, the Pittsburgh Penguins sit only two points out of first place in the Eastern Conference after a 3-2 overtime victory against the Boston Bruins on Saturday.

My only question to you is: How?

Trevor Gillies Has No Place in the NHL

Trevor Gillies needs to be suspended for the rest of the season, possibly longer.  This should be a no-brainer and made official immediately.

20 Best Sports Movie Quotes of All-Time (Part 1)

Sports movies resonate with many of us, helping us relive glories of yesterday or watch the worst team in the league suddenly win the big game.  For years now, sports movies have been part of our culture, evolving with our ever-changing world and bringing larger-than-life characters to the big screen.

Not only do the movies themselves become etched in our memories, but the quotes of characters become part of our everyday conversation, worming their way into our language until we wonder how we ever did without them. But which one is the best?

Warning: Some of the videos have NSFW language, so be careful.

#20 - Major League 2

Harry Doyle:  It looks like Willie Hays is trying to hit Rick Vaughn, and why not?  Everybody else in the league does.

Harry Doyle is the epitome of what a movie baseball announcer should be: funny, critical and drunk. You could probably make a list of Harry's best quotes, but for today, we'll just pick one and let you know there are tons more. Juuuuuuuuuuuuuust a bit outside.

The Top 10 Worst Pittsburgh Penguins of the Last 10 Years

The Pittsburgh Penguins are only two seasons removed from their last Stanley Cup championship, have the greatest player in the world as their center, and have a supporting cast of Jordan Staal, Marc-Andre Fleury, and Evgeni Malkin.   Along with their new-found success has come a new generation of Penguins fans who don't know of the hardships long-time Pens fans suffered during the "dark ages" (2002-2006).

Well, fear not, because we are going to take a look at the worst Penguins since 2001...

#10 - Dan Focht  (D, 2002-2004)

While most Penguins fans have blocked this defenseman out of their minds, a simple mention of his name is enough to send chills down their spine.  Notoriously bad with the puck, Focht made every single fan in the arena nervous when he handled the vulcanized rubber.  His lack of speed and positioning more than contributed to his -23 rating during 52 games with the club in 03-04.  Danny wasn't much of a passer, or hitter, or shooter, or shot blocker, but hey...I bet he tried really hard.
